Dear Friend,
We moved to Round Rock in the mid-nineties to find more affordable homes, good public schools and safer neighborhoods for my two children – Alex and Denise. And even though I was a single mom working full-time at the Texas Comptroller’s Office, I always have been hands-on when it comes to my kids’ education.
From being in the Forest Creek Elementary PTA to serving as President of the Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees, I have a long history of supporting teachers and students in the classroom. During my tenure Round Rock ISD has become one of the fastest growing and highest rated school districts in Texas.
We achieved these milestones by working to control class sizes, providing the best technology available and keeping our campuses safe. As president of the school board I always worked hard to make sure differing viewpoints were heard, common ground was found and that we had the integrity to put the people’s business first while operating in an open and honest fashion.
That is exactly the kind of leadership that we have been missing at the State Capitol. Power plays and back-room deals have replaced the priorities of Texas’ working families. While we face a regional transportation crisis, the costs of college tuition is skyrocketing, hundreds of thousands of children go without proper health care and families teeter one paycheck from financial ruin – the leadership in Austin is too busy conducting partisan warfare to notice how far we have run off the tracks.
I’m running for State Representative in District 52 because we need leadership that represents people, not special interests or a particular political ideology. After twenty-two years as an award winning government efficiency expert in the Texas Comptroller’s Office, as a single mom with two kids in college and a track record of success in building diverse coalitions and achieving my goals – I stand ready to join you in the effort to bring balance and common sense back to our Legislature.
Sincerely,
Diana Maldonado
